ARCH1011 Week 8 Task 2: Plan & Section

Plan

Crystal stone shapes have the meaning of immortality/ perseverance- which fit with " school " and will encourage the student to be perseverance.

REASON: I chose this plan because I like it has a centre area where all people can meet - the circular centre. It could be a space as an entry to different areas, like all elevators in one place so it is easier for students and teachers to access places where they wanted to. And it will be easier to increase peoples connections by maybe starting to chat at this common area, or helping freshers to guide where they want to go. Since a lot of people will be accessing their floors all in one place, so more chance will give to people to feel included in this place. 

I also quite like how it looks very "Serious" as it shows the attitude towards learning. (Because it is an office building, it's more like brings students into society environment ) And shows the school should be very formal and serious environment. It is a very high building, with 3 big parts, all different functional spaces can be distinguished in different parts.

Frank Gehry Guggenheim Bilbao

Compare to others, this one has a more detailed plan that includes divided spaces. It got curved walls, and its an interesting place to be in. Its a place where I want to sit down and study. Has an aesthetic value in it. Also, I can see it can connect with the bridge well.

Zaha Hadid riverside museum

Interesting plan shape, a more freedom curvy style. It is also 3 big parts to put functional spaces in. 

Mies van der (rohey) Rohe skyscraper

I like the structure, it's very pretty. The whole building got the "university" atmosphere.

It got 3 common area/ stairs. And it has many divided areas where its easier to put the functional space into it. Play slit floors.

-More connected with my bridge design, I was thinking my bridge to have covered roof, but the roof and the protective fence of the bridge can move and change into something different in sunny days. When it opens,  its  inviting. 

the glass windows/doors as a protective fence along with the bridge can be open during sunny days,

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

The upper space is designed for Trent Jansen Studio whose products are mostly in a sustainable and poetic style. They also use lots of natural elements to create their products. Therefore, my design aims to create a space that nicely combines natural elements with space. It will include enough functional spaces.  In my model,  I have placed some completed furniture works at level 1 in the upper space. The level 1 space can be used as the main design room and where also can show their products or place newly completed works. The level 2 space is where people can draw/design plus experimenting with real materials. 

The space under the ground is designed for Audrey Allen & Ashton Cameron, whose products are related to the Jewelry. I designed 2 entries and exits to allow people to access to the very bottom part workroom. I also placed a "split level" at this very bottom part space as a storage room. It is more convenient to take materials for making jewelry. Or it can be another space to show products. I divided the top part of the lower space into many 3 spaces where are connected through active doors. The 2 spaces can be used as design rooms, and the very left-hand side room includes a stair to access the very bottom experimental workroom.
